Hostel story
This hostel is named after Ronald ‘Tonky’ Logan who was a singer, songwriter, radio presenter and community leader.
Born in Hughenden in north-west Qld in 1952, Tonky became a well-known Townsville Radio presenter and country music legend.
His country music program, ‘Tonky’s Country Country’ grew from a 2-hour request program to a 4-hour national show that ran for almost 14 years.
Logan was proud to be a recovered alcoholic and used his experience to reach out to his audience and inspire other First Nations people who were going through hard times.
Tonky passed away on 14 May 2008.
