Hostel story
This hostel is named after Jumula Dubbins in recognition of her tireless work for the people in her community.
Jumula was born in 1907 in Western Torres Strait Island, Badu Island. Friends and family affectionately called her ‘Jummy’. Jumula worked to find shelter for the homeless both before and after World War II for the people of the Torres Strait Islands and vocally opposed discrimination in the church and in the courts.
