Our purpose is to provide safe, culturally appropriate and affordable accommodation for First Nations people who need to be away from home to access medical services, education and economic opportunities.
Across its network of hostels, dedicated Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) staff provide accommodation and meals for residents in a supportive environment, assisted by local First Nations service providers and referral agencies.
AHL is looking for Housekeepers, Cooks and Kitchenhands in Alice Springs, who are highly motivated, energetic, enthusiastic and passionate about delivering quality services to our residents.
Information for candidates: an affirmative measure allows a particular job in the Australian Public Service to be open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons. The filling of this vacancy is intended to constitute an affirmative measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975. It is open to First Nations candidates only.
To be eligible to apply for an Affirmative Measure – Indigenous position, you must provide confirmation that you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person as part of the onboarding process by providing one of the following documents:
• a confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent form executed by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander organisation
• a letter signed and executed by the chairperson of an incorporated Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander organisation confirming you are recognised as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
• a statutory declaration made by you or a member of an indigenous service provider confirming you are recognised as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, if no other documents are available.
Essential Qualifications and Training:
Cook and Kitchenhand – Food Safety Handling Certificate (or ability to obtain in the first six months of employment).
Housekeeper – Chemical Handling Training through an AHL’s approved supplier (currently Jaysol) (or ability to complete within the first six months of employment).
Eligibility
• Be an Australian Citizen.
• Undergo a Satisfactory National Criminal History Check (prior to engagement).
• Meet Fitness for Duty requirements (prior to engagement).
• Hold and maintain a Working with Children Check in NT (prior to engagement)
• Hold or obtain relevant qualifications.
