Named in recognition of the great contribution Tonk Logan [1952-2008] made to his local Townsville community.  Tonky, originally from Hughenden in north-west Qld became a well-known Townsville Radio presenter and country music legend.  His country music program, ‘Tonky’s Country’ grew from a two-hour request program to a four-hour national show that ran for almost 14 years.  For much of his early life Tonky was a wanderer and an alcoholic.  He turned his life around through the music and through his work as a radio announcer with Townsville 4K1G.  Tonky used his experiences to talk to and inspire other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who were going through hard times.

AHL acknowledges the Gugu-Badhun People as the traditional owners of the land on which we operate the hostel. AHL pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
