Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) is looking for an energetic, friendly and motivated Cook to join our team at our Nagandji Nagandji Ba Hostel, Nightcliff, Darwin. We would like to let the applicant know that they will be cooking for a maximum of 20 people at the hostel and that Nagandji Nagandji ba is a one of our many medical hostels that we have within AHL. 

Across its network 42 hostels, dedicated Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) staff provide accommodation and meals for residents in a supportive environment, assisted by local First Nations service providers and referral agencies.

AHL also supports the Australian Government’s efforts to improve economic outcomes for First Nations people. This is a great opportunity to be part of important work that supports First Nations peoples across Australia. 

 

As a Cook, you’ll play an important role in creating a delicious, nutritious meals and be accommodating to our hostel guests. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing meals in accordance with AHL’s set menus, Food Safety Standards Australia and other relevant legislation
  • Managing stocktake by rotating, receiving and monitoring food and kitchen supplies 
  • Ensuring the kitchen is cleaned to AHL standard 
  • Preparing and cleaning the dining rooms for residents.


About the Candidates Experience: 

  • Meal preparation in an industry-based environment, ensuring the safe production of quality food without compromise to Food Safety Standards Australia.
  • Commercial cookery, and the ability to manage stock rotation while ensuring timely service and hygiene of cooking equipment
  • Good understanding of cleanliness and health standards required whilst preparing food at the work station 


About the Candidates Qualifications (desirable):

  • Willing to undertake training within AHL if required 
  • Certificate II Food Safety Handling or willing to obtain.
  • Certificate II in Hospitality or Certificate III in Commercial Cookery is desirable, but not mandatory.
  • Other relevant qualifications or work experience in a similar role.

 

  • Provide evidence of Australian Citizenship
  • Undergo a Satisfactory National Criminal History Check (prior to engagement)
  • Meet Fitness for Duty requirements (prior to engagement)
  • Hold or obtain relevant qualifications
  • Hold and maintain a Working with Children Check (prior to engagement)


What We Offer:
Competitive Pay & Benefits: $59,520 - $64,877 per annum (pro-rated for part-time). You’ll receive an above-award salary, 15.4% superannuation, and generous leave entitlements to make sure you’re well looked after.
Location – The hostel is close to Nightcliff markets and Nightcliff shopping centre

Regular salary packaging options for vehicles, superannuation and laptops etc PLUS, ability to salary sacrifice $15,900 per FBT year for rent, mortgage or living expenses. This benefit reduces taxable income, increasing fortnightly take-home pay.
Generous Leave Entitlements – including additional days off when a your RDO falls on a public holiday, 18 days sick/personal leave per annum, cultural and NAIDOC day leave
